-  KEN 5  -

The fifth KEN, in 2012, was co-hosted in Bangkok, Thailand by the Population and Community Development Association (PDA), the United Nations Development Program’s (UNDP) Special Unit for South–South Cooperation, and TAG. The themes were Disaster Risk Reduction and Sustainable Development with an emphasis on both financial and economic sustainability, as well as Assets Based Community Development. Assets Based Community Development is a development and sustainability approach that the group adopted as a working model during the course of the workshop, emphasizing the resources that participants, communities and organizations bring to a situation rather than what they may lack. Self-care for those engaging in humanitarian work was introduced as an important element in personal sustainability. Sustainability in action was conveyed by PDA, whose organizational structure demonstrates the concept.  In parallel to its humanitarian ventures, PDA operates several income generating initiatives and enterprises that support its non-profit work. New network affiliates who participated in the workshop in Thailand were LEAD, Myanmar and PDC and CDRC from the Philippines.
