- Resource mobilisation -
Tag delivered a capacity building seminar for the Georgia Red Cross with the support of USAID and MDA UK. Knowledge and ideas were shared by participants and the Tag and MDA experts who facilitated the seminar. More than 30 Red Cross volunteers and staff engaged with new ideas and fundraising methods and discussed how different regions across Georgia were approaching fundraising.
The sessions began with an opportunity for participants to “dream aloud” about their vision for the Georgia Red Cross and how it might operate in the future. This set the tone for the following sessions in which the range of topics covered included the benefits of using Twitter, leveraging local assets and mobilising the resources at one’s immediate disposal. All of these contribute to the creation of a sustainable organisation with the ability to develop ground-breaking projects.
The seminar was held in the wake of the terrible earthquake and tsunami in Japan. This provided an opportunity for the members of the Red Cross to present proposals on how resources from Georgia could be mobilised for the disaster victims. The seminar culminated in a visit to the Japanese Embassy to discuss the proposals which evolved through the seminar. This highlights the crucial role that the seminar can play in their future activities.
Tag and MDA UK have committed to continue to work with the GRCS to enhance its fundraising capabilities. At the conclusion of the seminar, participants were asked to make a commitment to one “action item”, such as integrating new media into their everyday working lives, or leveraging local assets for targeted fundraising.
