GOAL Girls Football Project

Teaching life-skills to girls through football (soccer)

In Kisumu County in Western Kenya, we are working with thirty grass-roots girls football teams and the local professional women's team

Project in brief

Tag has established GOAL (Girls Opportunities Andl Life-skills), a football-based youth empowerment project, focused on empowering girls and young women through sport and life skills. We working with thirty local girls football team to supply them with much-improved equipment, with enhanced football training, as well as life-skills development. We are also assisting the development of the Kisumu All-Starlets women's Premier League team with career development support, sports equipment, and opportunities for the professional players to mentor young girls in our local teams.

The project will be assisting 30 local community girls football (soccer) teams with:
- A range of equipment, such as matching kits, football boots, balls and training materials
- A range of training covering football coaching and life-skills training
- Administrative support to help the teams' development

The project will also assist the local Premier League women's team - The Kisumu All Starlets - helping the players to maximize their life chances and raising the profile of women’s football:
- Providing careers counselling and mentoring
- Various footballing equipment
- Salary support for the team's management

A unique feature of the project is that the players of the Kisumu All Starlets will participate in weekly mentoring and coaching the younger players in the junior girls football teams.
